The overall objective of the “CrossBo Active” project is to encourage the involvement of inhabitants of Latvian-Russian cross-border region into healthy lifestyle activities, thus facilitating a more integrated and healthier society. Within the project 17 tournaments (4 basketball, 5 volleyball, 2 futsal, 2 streetball, 2 football, 1 hockey and 1 handball) were organized in Latvia (in Balvi, Rēzekne, and Ludza) and Russia (in Pskov, Pushkinskiye Gory, and Velikiye Luki), in which sports teams (men, women and youth) from Latgale region and Pskov oblast participated. The total amount of participants was over 2000. The total budget is 315672,72 EUR, of which 90% or 284105,45 EUR (199670,45 Ls) is financed by the Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross border cooperation Programme within European Neighborhood and Partnership instrument 2007-2013.
The main achievement of the project is that the sports schools of Latgale and Pskov have renewed their cooperation. During the cross-border tournaments contacts have been created between sportsmen, coaches, judges and sports events organizers of Latgalian border areas and Pskov. Several sports schools got new equipment. The tournaments were organized in such a way that the sportsmen could not only compete on the field, but also had the opportunity to go on excursions and acquaint themselves with local tourism objects and other notable places. In order to continue the started cooperation and expand the contacts it is planned that mutual tournaments will continue to be organized even after the end of the project.
